Image-guided radiotherapy

Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT)

The linear accelerator at Claraspital is equipped with an additional X-ray tube and special detectors which enable digital images of the therapeutic beam or a CT (cone beam CT) of the part of the body being radiated to be made immediately before the radiation is applied.

The advantage here is that the information in these images can be compared with the reference images taken while the therapy was being planned.  If deviations are found, the patient's position can be optimized prior to radiation by moving the radiation table using remote controls. This image-guided radiotherapy further improves the accuracy of the radiation administered.
