En­do­me­trio­sis

If the li­ning of the ute­rus gro­ws out­si­de the ute­rus, it is cal­led en­do­me­trio­sis.

Sym­ptoms

Endometriosis can occur in a wide variety of places in the female genital area and rarely also outside the genital area. Some endometriosis patients are completely symptom-free. Others have severe pain, which is often related to menstruation, or suffer from infertility.

Dia­gno­sis

Endometriosis can be suspected during a gynaecological examination and gynaecological ultrasound. The diagnosis is confirmed by laparoscopy with the removal of a tissue sample.

Pos­si­ble tre­at­ments

Endometriosis is treated with medication and/or surgery.
