Myocardial examinations with scintigraphy and PET/CT

Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy and positron emission tomography are suitable for detecting myocardial circulatory disorders.

Course of treatment

Myocardial examinations are used to detect incipient constrictions of the coronary arteries, which only lead to reduced blood flow to the heart muscle under stress conditions (angina pectoris).

Furthermore, follow-up checks after a heart attack or bypass surgery are possible; under certain circumstances, a stressful cardiac catheter examination can be dispensed with.

In myocardial examinations with scintigraphy and PET/CT, a slightly radioactive substance is administered at rest and under physical or drug-induced cardiac stress. These examinations allow visual and quantitative analyses of myocardial perfusion, pumping function and heart wall movement.
