Con­sti­pa­ti­on (con­sti­pa­ti­on)

Con­sti­pa­ti­on is a dis­or­der of bo­wel func­tion that is as­so­cia­ted with im­pai­red bo­wel evacua­ti­on. Chro­nic con­sti­pa­ti­on can oc­cur with or wi­t­hout pain syn­dro­mes in the pel­vic floor and ab­do­men and is a wi­despread com­p­laint that can also have psy­cho­lo­gi­cal and so­cial con­se­quen­ces if it per­si­sts.
