Lym­pho­lo­gi­cal phy­sio­the­ra­py (de­con­ge­sti­on the­ra­py)

Lym­pho­lo­gi­cal phy­sio­the­ra­py, also kno­wn as com­plex phy­si­cal de­con­ge­sti­ve the­ra­py, is re­com­men­ded for the tre­at­ment of pri­mary or se­con­dary lym­phoede­ma, which can oc­cur af­ter lymph node re­mo­val, ex­ten­si­ve sur­gery or ra­dio­the­ra­py, for ex­amp­le, as well as for the tre­at­ment of li­po­ede­ma.

Cour­se of tre­at­ment

  • Lymphological physiotherapy consists of the following components: manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, compression treatment using a compression bandage or compression stocking, instruction in movement exercises, information and knowledge transfer on dealing with oedema.
  • The treatment begins with an information session in which the individual treatment procedure is discussed with you.
  • Depending on the extent of your oedema, this is followed by an intensive phase of varying duration, usually lasting between
    2 - 3 weeks, which is concluded with the fitting of compression stockings.
  • In the subsequent maintenance phase, the result achieved is stabilised by consistently wearing the compression stocking.
  • After a period of time to be determined individually, a new, usually shorter intensive phase is started, which is followed by a maintenance phase.
