The lung function laboratory at the Claraspital offers the entire spectrum of lung function tests on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Specialised tests are carried out to assess respiratory mechanics, gas exchange and performance.
Course of treatment
Whole-body plethysmography can be used to determine the total lung volume, while spirometry measures the speed of the breath. The capacity for gas exchange is measured using diffusion capacity and blood gas analysis.
Other tests, such as the methacholine provocation test, allow the detection of asthma. An exercise test, known as spiroergometry (see image), can be used to determine physical performance and the cause of any performance impairment.
