A collapse of the airways leads to snoring, frequent pauses in breathing at night, followed by waking reactions and thus to unrestful sleep. Men who are overweight and consume alcohol and nicotine are often affected. Other typical symptoms include lack of concentration, night sweats and morning headaches.
Course of treatment
Consultation hours for patients with breathing problems during sleep
Snoring is a widespread phenomenon that can rob your bed partner of sleep. The "snorer" often doesn't even notice it themselves. However, if, in addition to snoring, breathing interruptions also occur, snoring can become a health hazard for those affected. The consequences are chronic daytime sleepiness and drowsiness as well as an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Joint consultation at the Claraspital
Together with the Lung League of Basel, Claraspital Pneumology offers a consultation for patients with sleep apnoea so that treatment is provided from a single source and offers them the greatest possible comfort and optimal care.
If the diagnosis of sleep apnoea is confirmed by our pneumologists or an examination in the sleep laboratory, a specialist from the Lung League at the Claraspital will then take over further care: they will fit the patient with an individual therapy device, explain and train them in its use, provide advice and, like our doctors, are available to answer any questions.
Consultation appointments
Patients with chronic breathing difficulties benefit from mechanical respiratory support using mask ventilation, usually during sleep. The indication and customisation of home ventilation is part of our service.
